Humanitarian Pediatrics Program

Humanitarian Pediatrics Program

Meet pediatric needs for the 1 in 5 displaced children globally

Over 400 million children — approximately one in six worldwide — live in conflict zones, and nearly 37 million are displaced by conflict, poverty, or natural disasters. These children face disproportionate risks to their health and wellbeing. Loss of caregivers, disrupted social systems, direct violence, and limited access to pediatric health services all threaten their ability to attain the highest possible standard of health. The Humanitarian Pediatrics Program (HPP) was established to address these needs, working to understand and respond to the unique circumstances of children in humanitarian settings in order to uphold their right to health and to prevent, mitigate, and address the health consequences they face.

Mission

HPP partners with non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, donors, governments, and academic institutions to provide technical expertise and implementation support for pediatric health initiatives in humanitarian contexts. Working collaboratively with partner organizations and communities, the HPP helps to define both the immediate and long-term needs of affected populations, guide program development and implementation, and strengthen national and international resilience strategies.

‍Program Streams

HPP supports affected communities, partners, and governments through the following program streams:
  • Knowledge Production
  • Technical Support
  • Education
  • Policy and Advocacy
